What should I ask about genetic-data privacy?

Before a DNA test, understand who handles the sample and data, why the information is used, who may receive it and how to ask questions later. Read the privacy policy alongside the testing consent rather than relying on a short security badge.

What does EVA's policy say?

EVA’s privacy policy explains how information is used and shared to provide its services. It covers laboratories and other relevant healthcare, technology and service providers, and says EVA does not sell health information.

The policy allows for information to be stored or processed in the UAE or other jurisdictions where service providers maintain infrastructure. It describes contractual, organisational and technical safeguards for health information transferred outside the UAE. Any cross-border processing remains subject to applicable requirements; this does not establish where a particular sample, report or system is processed. Ask EVA to explain the arrangements and consent that apply to your test.

The policy describes AI-assisted processing and explains that automated outputs are informational. It provides routes to request access, correction and other rights, while noting that some information may need to be retained.

Seven questions to ask before testing

  1. Who processes the sample? Ask for the laboratory's role and the consent terms that apply.
  2. Where does processing happen? Distinguish the physical sample, laboratory data and the information displayed in the app.
  3. What is retained? Ask separately about the sample, raw genetic data and reports.
  4. Who can access it? Ask how access is limited to relevant staff and service providers.
  5. Is any secondary use involved? Ask what choices apply to research, service improvement or other uses.
  6. What does deletion mean? Ask what can be removed and what may need to remain.
  7. How do I raise a concern? Keep the contact route with your consent record.

Does a gym referral give a coach access to my report?

EVA partners see referral and commission status only. A referral does not give a gym, coach or practice access to blood results, DNA findings, personalised protocols or other clinical records. You should understand that boundary before discussing personal results outside the clinical relationship.

How can I contact EVA about privacy?

The published policy lists privacy@eva.ae for privacy questions and rights requests. Refer to the current policy for the request process and any limits that apply.

When you are comfortable with the answers, review what the DNA service includes. If a point is unclear, ask before proceeding.
